Gregg Popovich and George Karl Won't Get Out of Bed For Less Than $18.5 Million
Papers filed with the SEC have revealed that Larry Brown received $18.5 million in his settlement with the NY Knicks after they fired him after the first season in a multi-year deal. Larry Brown ultimately collected $28.5 million to win 23 games. I'm sure Halliburton is drafting the press release right now announcing that they have hired Larry Brown to be its CEO.
The settlement amount is considered especially low because those in the know expected him to receive about $30 million out of the $52 million Brown claimed he was owed. Consequently, in the height of irony, the Knicks are being praised for saving money.
But here's the kicker...
Gregg Popovich said it's "worrisome" that Brown received so little money. Really? It's worrisome that a multi-millionaire settled for the dreadful prospect of continuing to be multi-millionaire many times over? I'm sure Larry Brown's family is really disappointed in him right now.
George Karl, after getting into it with Isaiah Thomas, said, "It's a harder job than any of you all can imagine and now putting insecurity in a secure area is sad." Yes, George. You are a victim. You are a victim of hype because you have never really won anything despite being continually touted as a "great" coach. And you are certainly underpaid for running a 2 hour practice every day and standing on the sidelines in ugly jersey/turtleneck ensembles a few nights a week.
Coaches are greedy bitches.
