State of the Falcons

Again, I'm just going to be happy about the win.

Let's go defense. Clap clap. Let's go defense.

Glad somebody's making plays on the team.

Joe DeCamillis continues to innovate on special teams. He always makes the most of what he's got, even when his resources are depleted when players get called up because of injuries.

Once again, we got off to a slow start, but we managed to pull it together. Yeah, we beat Tampa Bay and Washington most recently. However, the results are a lot better than they were against Detroit and Cleveland.

The team did suffer some key injuries. Both Warrick Dunn and Jerious Norwood had to leave the game early. There's no official word coming out of Flowery Branch, but I expect both to be available for the game against Dallas. Coach Mora did say that both players were walking fine. And Dunn only needs 3 yards to get to 1000 yards for the season. Not to mention Norwood is auditioning for Warrick's job. Apparently, Mora said the team could pick up a free agent tailback during the week, but he was downplaying the injuries during his interview on 790 the Ticket.

And there always has to be a little controversy every week. Terrence Moore, one of the AJC columnists who hates the Falcons, tried to dredge up drama by interviewing former Falcons head coach Dan Reeves. Reeves said that firing him retarded Vick's development and that Vick is not a coach killer. “A coach killer is somebody who doesn’t cooperate and tries to back-stab you, and that’s not Mike Vick, and anybody around him knows he’s not that.” Fine. I think many of the fans in Atlanta realize that we were better off with Reeves than Mora. Reeves was conservative, but we always knew he was competent. The jury is still out on Mora. But I don't appreciate columnists dredging up ghosts, especially when he was too busy writing "the Falcons suck" and "the Falcons are going to lose every game and here's why" columns all season long to realize that most fans developed a revised appreciation for Reeves earlier in the season.

I hope the Falcons watch that Saints/Cowboys game about 50 times this week. New Orleans just showed the league how to beat Dallas. And, ironically, it's the same way you beat the Falcons. Show the vulnerable offensive line by pressuring the QB and put a sucky secondary on display by throwing the deep ball at will. So, I think we should try offering up the opposition a taste of their own medicine. Even if Dallas tries to do that to us, we should fare a little bit better just because we have a more experienced QB. God bless Romo, but he couldn't conceal a read if his life depended on it. He is always looking directly at his target. Mostly, the playmakers on his team bail him out, but he's not making it easy for them.

Also, on Saturday night, our kicker, Morten Andersen should be able to become the highest scoring kicker of all time. We are very excited, as it is very possible that our elderly kicker may turn out to be our only Hall of Famer (Is Deion a HOFer? Will he go in as a Falcon?). Please join us in celebrating this momentous occasion. Much to Al Michael's chagrin, I'm sure some indoor pyrotechnics will be involved. We love you, Mort!

Prime Time goes in as a 49er or a Cowboy - if he goes in.

You know how most of the HOF committee hates flashy black guys.

Deion goes in first ballot.

If he doesn't, there is something wrong.

and I am NOT a Deion fan, mind you.

But you cannot deny the fact that while Deion was not the FIRST shutdown corner...he was the first one to be labeled as such.

Every CB since Deion should send Deion 3% of their salary just cause he raised the profile of the position.

oh, and only falcon fans rememeber that Deion was a Falcon first.

you do not go into the Hall of Fame as a member of a team, this aint baseball.
