You Run Your Mouth? You Might Get Popped In It

Another day, another T.O. controversy...

Terrell Owens spit in DeAngelo Hall's face during the 1st quarter of the Falcons/Cowboys game on Saturday night.

Think I feel sorry for Hall? Think again.

I'm a homer and I love the Falcons, but DeAngelo Hall has done little to earn the respect of the fans this season.

All Hall does lately is run his mouth. "I'm the fastest man in the NFL," "I'm the best cornerback in the league" "I'm better than Deion Sanders." Whatever.,, The difference between Owens and Hall is that when Owens talks smack, he backs it up. DeAngelo has yet to learn this lesson. Not only did T.O. burn him all night long, all kinds of receivers have burned DeAngelo Hall all season long including the 73 year old Hines Ward (wearing only one shoe!).

Despite the SportsCenter shuffle Hall did after the game, DeAngelo is flat out lying when he says that Owens and/or his spit did not frustrate him during the game. I was at the game and saw Hall yapping at T.O. all night long. From my vantage point, Owens was nonresponsive. I guess after T.O. burned him a couple of times, Hall decided to get in the officials' face. At one point, Coach Mora had to physically restrain Hall from a referee. DeAngelo continued to yap and complain all night long. Not coincidentally, his jabberjawing didn't stop him from getting outplayed all night.

Without hesitation, Terrell admitted that he spit at Hall. It's absolutely a tasteless thing to do, but I doubt it was without provocation. There's a little room in my mind to think that Hall is a complete punk that might have deserved it. Furthermore, I suspect it's probably on the low end of vile things that happen on an NFL playing field behind the officials' backs. And even if I'm being too much of an apologist for Owens, T.O. led his team to a win. Hall whined his way to a loss. And even a Falcon fan can't be mad at T.O. for that.

yanno, in an age where a washed up sitcom legend can drop a few N-bombs and pop up on YouTube before morning,

I've decided that if I didn't see it, it didn't actually happen.

Yeah, I can't believe he admitted it so readily. I guess he's honest to a fault.

But if he was my client, I would have told him to sidestep the question.

I can't really think of an appropriate excuse for spitting in someone's face. It's the ultimate insult. Is it weird that DeAngelo didn't try to kick the shit out of TO immediately? Yes. But just because you're "frustrated" doesn't give you the right to hock a loogie in someone's face.

The irony of all this? In TO's book, he talks about a time in HS when someone spit at him, and how he felt embarassed, etc. Looks like someone didn't learn anything.

Hmmm... Interesting, Rover. That is ironic. I understand that spitting is bad. But man law would probably apologize for Owens starting a fight, pulling on his face mask or otherwise causing a penalty for his team. Good thing there's no man law enforced at this blog.
