Hoya Update

So, it was all for this.... It was totally worth it.

Today, the #22 Hoyas upset #11 Marquette 76-58. The Hoyas controlled the whole game, but Maquette was resilient. They were down by only 5 with about 6 minutes to go. However, the Hoyas wouldn't give in and Marquette gave up, resulting in their 18 point defeat.

Perhaps the team was buoyed by the 100th anniversary of Hoya basketball. Several illustrious former Hoyas were in town to celebrate at a gala tonight and the Hoya All-Century Team was announced at halftime. That team included Patrick Ewing, Dikembe Mutombo, Alonzo Mourning, Allen Iveron, Eric "Sleepy" Floyd, Michael Jackson and many others. Roy Hibbert, with his 23 points and 11 rebounds, admitted staying up all night watching classic Hoya footage and played with pride that he was part of a proud legacy. Perhaps, Jeff Green, with his career high 24 points, was feeling the Hoya pride too.

Perhaps the team was buoyed by the enthusiastic home crowd. The MCI Center was packed, loud and enthusiastic throughout the game. Believe me, that is no easy task. Hoya crowds are not fanatical. They have the energy of, say, a Lakers crowd. But it's good to know that everyone did their part this Saturday.

I am glad to see that JT3's strategy of learning how to win has paid off. The tougher pre-conference schedule and the front loading of road games is paying benefits. The team has been a little up and down, but this Marquette win is our signature win so far. We are for real.

Go Hoyas!

i'm not picking on you, but that georgetown win wasn't an upset at all. the hoyas were a 10-point favorite.

sorry, but i get annoyed when people consider an upset based on rankings or seedings. sadly, lines in vegas dictate when it's an upset.

Sorry, I'm not a degenerate gambler (yet). I was just happy for the win. I'll try to check the lines in the future. 10 points? Really? Go Hoyas!

The Hoyas are for real I think. The combo of Green and Hibbert could take them far in the NCAA tourney.
