If T.O. Can Do It, I Can Do It Too

I'm still not sure how thebiglead.com managed to get into the Versace Mansion, but they did and managed to spot Terrell Owens and Donovan McNabb hugging it out.

But, of course, if ESPN doesn't see it, it never happened. Michael Wilbon claimed on PTI that he heard about "the hug", but he didn't see it and he doesn't believe it. J.A. Adande claimed he saw it, but The Big Lead thinks he's just frontin' to make himself seem cooler than he is.

BTW, I'm not surprised that it was Owens and not McNabb that initiated the truce. I've never thought that McNabb was as much of a leader as he is made out to be. However, I am considering squashing my beef with McNabb. Yes, I have been a victim of the media's divisive Owens v. McNabb coverage. I have taken sides and it's not with the beard.

But even I can see the tragedy in a man's legacy not being his own and the unfairness of always being linked to someone else, much less Terrell Owens.

McNabb's new giant beard seems to be a good influence on him. McNabb conducted all of his Superbowl interviews last week without the bitterness that he usually displays against Owens. He usually talks in doublespeak everytime someone mentions Owens, often sliding an underhanded insult Owens' way. But I'm starting to think that he's gotten over it. In fact, McNabb expressed that he and Owens had a great season and that he doesn't regret their experience together.

But, then again, maybe McNabb's beard is laced with estrogen. McNabb played nice when asked about his difficulties in Philly this season, saying things like "I hope Jeff comes back" and "Coach and I mutually agreed to cancel the press conference I scheduled" and "All my teammates love me." Please. I know that McNabb knows that the only thing standing between him and the trading block is the prognosis of his very pronounced limp.

Playing nice might be a good strategy to stay in favor with the Eagles organization, the analysts who love to slurp you and Chunky Soup and the rest of your corporate sponsors. However, I hope McNabb's strategy works. Otherwise, he is passing up a good opportunity to potentially demand a trade and set his own course. Or he could just feign shock when the Eagles realize they don't like him in that way and dispose of McNabb in a scenario beyond his control. And if he does that, McNabb doesn't appreciate Terrell Owens' experience as much as he should.

The Eagles are never, never, never going to dump McNabb as long as Andy Reid is the coach. Their legacies and careers are hopelessly linked, and it doesn't matter how many angry douchebags call WIP -- it's not going to change unless McNabb gets hurt again this season and misses 8-10 games, or Reid moves on to a new job, or a meteor hits the NovaCare complex during an Iggles practice.
