No More Excuses

New Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Bobby Petrino has announced that Michael Vick will be allowed to call plays.
We're going to put it all on him. That's something that's new to him. It's something he's excited about. It's the way I believe you train a quarterback. You make him responsible for the protections, you make him responsible for what I call trumping the center — when the center makes a protection call and the blitz shows something different.
Under Coach Mora and Offensive Coordinator Gregg Knapp, Vick was only allowed to changed the blocking scheme and the direction of the play. Vick never openly complained but was quick to remind anyone that asked that he didn't call the plays.
This is a double edged sword.
If he has control of the team and loses, what is Ron Mexico's future in the league, especially given his off the field mishaps. Is the dream of the unstoppable athletic quarterback over?
If Vick has control and wins, will he get the credit for calling the plays and running an offense like Peyton Manning does? (and will he be awarded a Superbowl MVP he doesn't deserve while acting all nonchalant about the honor, as if he couldn't be bothered with another award?)

The problem is that Vick has played 6 seasons in the league, and still evidently needs to be "trained" to play QB.
Vegan Viking's dead on. This is actually a good move by Petrino -- if Vick can't hack it calling plays too, then the Falcons will have no problem shipping him out of town if they find a buyer.
So are you telling me that if Vick fucks up this time he has nobody to blame but himself???????? Crazy!
